What was cam newton major in college

I'm sure that has a lot to do with it, that and the fact he is such a prolific player. There is something, however, that is inherently terrific about making a big deal out of this seemingly non-story though.

None of us will be as fortunate as Newton is financially. To be able to do something you love and be paid ungodly amounts of money for it is a true rarity. Having your college degree as a player in the NFL is almost as uncommon. Nearly half of the players in the NFL in the year did not have a college degree, despite the fact essentially every single player in the NFL was drafted from a university of some sort.

The morality behind that and what the NCAA should be doing about it is a different discussion. What remains though is that Newton has achieved something that many of his peers have not, and much of it was based around a promise to his mother. The promise was no matter what happened in his football career, he would graduate with a degree from college. It may have taken him a bit longer than normal, but he honored his promise to his mother in the end.

It is possible though that the college degree he got, he will never actually need to use. I'd wager that is enough for anyone to live comfortably and find other ways to make your money work for you. Not every player is granted such a huge contract as you all know, however. He threw 22 pass touchdowns, while also rushing for yards with 16 rushing touchdowns.

It appeared to impart the kind of leadership mentality that has made him such a huge asset in the NFL. As a result, the sports world is rife with rumors about where he might choose to sign. Currently, the best odds are for Newton to end up with the Los Angeles Chargers. Analysts feel his style of play would best well with offensive weapons like Austin Ekeler and Keenan Allen. If the Chargers can sign him to a team-friendly offer sheet, they can still preserve future cap space and try to draft a long-term replacement in the coming years.

The Patriots, in particular, make an intriguing option. Subscribe to our Free Newsletter. This Month in Sports Reference Find out when we add a feature or make a change. Do you have a sports website?
